Ninety five percent of women in the developing world are not yet receiving cervical cancer screening due to high costs of screening and limited access to doctors and laboratories. Furthermore, the current Pap smear test is a cumbersome and costly procedure that requires sample collection, sample preparation, and shipment to a laboratory for analysis and results. Onko Solutions is commercializing a medical device for cervical cancer screening that is reliable, affordable, portable, user-friendly, and minimally intrusive. The overall effect will be to reach women who are currently not receiving cervical and uterine cancer screening, and to lower costs for practitioners. The global market potential for Onko’s medical device is estimated at $22 billion, with the United States accounting for approximately 50%. This includes only the segment of women that currently performs anual screening which in the US is close to 60 million.
